Abstract

This article starts with a didatic classification of the works of Fernando de Azevedo and deal with the analysis of A cultura brasileira (1943) bringing forth the reflexion which it transmits and the biblioography and iconography that it presents. It recognizes the original aspect which drives the book and the educator along, that is, to crown the study of society and culture with the study of education. It concentrates, intentionally, on the area of politico-social reflection, emphasizing the responsability of all, including the government, for today's almost bankrupt levels of education and recommends a search for solutions using the though and action of that great reformer.
