Abstract

This study aims to describe the emotional manifestation of hypertension patients. A qualitative and quantitative methodology was used to examine emotional manifestations of stress in hypertensive patients. Methods: the instrument for the evaluation of stress in hypertensive patients was adapted for this study, using the part about emotional manifestations. The study population consisted of 136 hypertensive patients who were attending a hypertension clinic at the Cardiology and Nephrology Division of the Medical Clinic Department of the Ribeirão Preto "Hospital das Clínicas" HCFMRP-USP. This study was submitted to and approved by the ethics committee. Examining emotional manifestations is very important for hypertensive patients and appeared in 52% of hypertensive patients with stress symptoms. This research contributes to teaching, research and care delivery to hypertensive patients.
