Avaliação da colonização nasal por Staphylococcus aureus em universitários da área de saúde: análise da relação com índices antropométricos

Introdução: Staphylococcus aureus é um patógeno oportunista que pode estar presente na microbiota da pele e mucosas de pessoas sadias. Alguns estudos sugerem que a obesidade pode ser um fator que favorece a colonização no sítio nasal por esta bactéria. Objetivo: O presente trabalho avaliou a frequência de colonização nasal por S. aureus em universitários da área da saúde em São Luís (MA), analisando a possível relação com fatores antropométricos (índice de massa corpórea – IMC; relação cintura-quadril– RCQ). Metodologia: Foram recrutados 83 estudantes (51 do sexo feminino e 32 do sexo masculino) matriculados nos cursos da área da saúde para obtenção de dados demográficos, comportamentais e parâmetros antropométricos (IMC, RCQ). As amostras nas fossas nasais foram inoculadas em meio Ágar Sal Manitol com posterior identificação dos isolados. Por fim, a análise de formação de biofilme foi analisada. Resultados: Na população estudada a prevalência de obesidade e sobrepeso/ obesidade foi de 26,51% e 55,42%, respectivamente. Em adição, RCQ alterado foi encontrado em 37,35% dos estudantes. A maioria das amostras avaliadas (91,57%) foram positivas para Staphylococcus sp. (p<0,0001), sendo a prevalência de S. aureus (61,45%) estatisticamente superior à de Staphylococcus catalase negativa (30,12%; p=0,0028). Os isolados de S. aureus foram predominantemente classificados como fracos formadoras de biofilme. Não foram observadas associações significativas entre a colonização por S. aureus e a obesidade na população estudada. Conclusão: A alta frequência de estudantes de saúde portadores de S. aureus denota a importância de medidas de controle para impedir a disseminação deste microrganismo.
