This paper begins with the concept that behaviors or food patterns are historically determined. Contextualize the main characteristics of several phases of the development of the Brazilian society and identify the values and the social norms responsible for predominant food patterns in each of the different phases of the Brazilian development. In the second part emphasizes as the main changes in the labor market and in the mass media communication, the so called “third industrial revolution”, have contributed to the construction of non-healthy food patterns notconducive to the contemporary search for quality of life.
