Analysis of the Production of International Research on Tourism in Colombia and Brazil y the Current Tourism Development of the Countries

Tourism is one of the most dynamic sectors in the world, and the difference in the arrival oftourists and economic benefits perceived by the same concept in destination countries withemerging economies and developed economies is declining (UNWOT, 2011). For LatinAmerican countries represent an opportunity for growth of economic and social development.This paper is a bibliometric analysis of scientific research on tourism in Brazil and Colombia,published in international journals between the years of 2007 to July/2011. The aim is toverify what is being investigated and by whom, and the evolution of academic expression ofthe countries in this area of great economic importance. On the other hand, present acomparison of the tourism sector between the two countries and their tourism competitivenessbased on secondary data from national and international agencies. The analysis showed clearindications of improvements in academic participation, addresses for studies of growth andsustainable tourism sector in both countries. Finally, the study concludes withrecommendations of some strategies for cooperation between countries and lines of futureresearch.Downloads
