Abstract

The Valley of the Ribeira has been considered as a region of high tourist potential due to the important scenic, historical and cultural patrimony, where are placed 49% of the Units of Conservation of the State of São Paulo. However, it is also the poorest region of the state, with serious economic and social problems. Inside of this scene the ecotourism has been pointed as an adjusted alternative to conciliate the economic development with the conservation of the natural resources. Thus, the proposal of the present article is to analyze the ecotourism and the tourism of fishes as an alternative of economic development for fisher and local inhabitants of the
Valley of the Ribeira, under the viewpoint of the ecological, economic and
social sustentability.
