This paper presents refleetions about the aspects of the Tourism Policy in Brazil, as well as the articulations between the public power and the privateinitiative. It analyses the action of Government on tourism, starting from the assumption that, in Brazil, between 1930 and 1964, in all governmental levels, there was not a systematic preocupation about tourism, that came to
occur just after the creation of Embratur, in 1966 is analyzed from the New Republic until nowadays.
