This paper shows why analyzing the competitors' cost in the hospitality industry can be so important. It shows a case study of a budget hotel whose core strategy is price leadership. It indicates how information gathered in media and in competitors' product ("reverse engineering") can be useful for a cost analysis information subsystem for strategic management. This work also demonstrates how to make inferences about the cost structure of the competitors and its relevance when fighting over a highly competitive market, as the current case in São Paulo.Downloads
