Tourism, Culture and Memory: study of two World Heritage Sites in Brazil

This study aims to analyze the process the heritage, representation and cultural significance of the historic center of São Luis (Maranhão), and the São Francisco Square in São Cristóvão city (Sergipe), considered Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and describe their historical values , socio-cultural and tourism. The methodology used was literature research, based on theoretical-conceptual, case study, field research with non participant observation and discourse analysis. Through research in both examples studied, it was found that the sites chosen as the heritage of humanity take the reference value for the residents as a place of memory, identity and belonging. And become potentially tourist attractions for those visiting the city and where these spaces are inserted.Downloads
