Rehabilitation with emphasis in territory: Jardim D'Abril and Jardim Boa Vista, in the city of São Paulo

Abstract

This is a project of teaching, research and extension of services to the community carried out in the Health Department School Butantã, in the West region of the city of São Paulo. It is developed through individual follow-up to the construction of life projects; Disabled People´s Forum for social organization aiming their special needs; sociocultural activities in public areas, social and emotional exchanges and Support to the Inclusion of children in schools and nursery schools. There are also in Jardim D'Abril actions to improve the sociability and the creation of a social net and support (Get-together Groups and Community Toy Collection) and revenue generation (Oficina do Fazer), partnerships with the local Association. In Jardim Boa Vista, in the Health Unity of the Family´s Health Program, there are actions for the physio-psychic integration, improvement of health conditions and the expansion of the support and social net through daily Groups of stretching e Tai Chi Chuan (for disabled people or not) and Group of Body Activities for youths at the local school. The register of disabled people living in these neighborhoods is permanent. Positive results can be observed in the collective actions (change of conceptions about disability; greater organization and awareness of their rights by disabled people and legitimacy of their requirements in the community concerning state policies; creation and consolidation of common-use places and greater access to public services). On individual level, we can see a reduction of segregation in domestic environment, improvement of participation in collective spaces, improvement of their conditions of sociability and reduction of psychic suffering for disabled people and their families.
