This study aims to identify the importance of family participation in occupational therapeutic treatment of children with cerebral palsy, as well as the strategies used by therapist to enable this participation. This qualitative and descriptive research involved a questionnaire with ten opened questions that were answered by 33 occupational therapists; in order to manage data, it was used the analysis of content. Results show that families participation occurs mainly through orientations, participation in sessions and by practicing at home the actions that were taught at therapy. Orientations include positioning, activities of daily living and stimulation. With the support of their families, children are benefited on their evolution, participation and independence. However, the involvement of family may be restricted due to factors as lack of time, overcharge, disinterest and rules of institution. Strategies used by therapists to enhance families participation include listening, orientation, family attendance and link creation. Subjects considered that the participation of family is very important, but sometimes it does not occur due to caregivers difficulties, which shows that they also need attention.
