Abstract

The compulsory ínternment of psychiatric patients has been object of many laws and legislations along the history. This paper discusses the French law of 1838, the Brazilian law of 1934 and the legislation proposed by the Federal Deputy Paulo Delgado in 1989. It points out líkenesses, advances and retrocessions.
