Abstract

The main interest in doing this research was to understand the conception that future occupational therapists have of people with a physical handicap and how this conception can be transformed or not„ bearing in mind the contact with scientifíc concepts during the course of "Occupational Therapy at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo". Beginning with the presumption that there is aversion toward the body of a physically handicapped person, and that this aversion came about spontaneously in the daily life of the students, ffom the logic of dominating social values, this attitude is not suitable for an adequate profissional performance. To obtain the data, questionaires and interviews were used with the students, before and after a specifíc subject: "Occupational Therapy Applied to Body Functions and its Alterations 1".
