Abstract

During the Soviet Union, the treatment of Russian literature classics was not uniform, and works and authors that were widely used as ideological weapons did not always enjoy a safe haven during the regime. Thus, in general, Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881) is not considered one of the classics to have swelled the ranks of the official writers of Soviet Marxism since he was opposed to the violent methods of the Revolution, preached Christianity, was a tsarist, and opposed atheism. Dostoevsky never ceased, however, to be published in the USSR, but his work was carefully selected for publication to meet the demands of the dominant ideology, following the norm of transforming the classics into “weapons for the construction of a new world”.

    Marina Darmaros é doutoranda do Departamento de Cultura e Literatura Russa da Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Foi pesquisadora no Departamento de Filologia da Universidade Estatal de Moscou Lomonóssov e tem mestrado em Jornalismo pela Universidade Russa da Amizade dos Povos (Patrice Lumumba).
