Call for Papers No. 30 – Open Topic Articles and Dossier: "Russophone Figurations in Latin America: Literatures and Cultures in Transit"
In addition to accepting open-topic submissions on a rolling basis, RUS invites contributions for Issue No. 30 that engage with literatures and cultures of the Russophone world in the Latin American context. This issue will welcome original articles, essays, and translations.
This dossier stems from discussions held during the international seminar "Between Pampas and Steppes: Latin American Perspectives on Russophone Literatures and Cultures," dedicated to the current state and future directions of Russophone literary and cultural studies in Latin America. The event took place in May 2025, organized by the Department of Oriental Languages at the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo (FFLCH-USP), with support from the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education’s National Events Support Program (PAEP-CAPES), with scholars from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
With the aim of expanding this academic dialogue and fostering critical readings of the Russophone world from a Latin American perspective, we invite researchers to submit original studies and investigations that explore, but are not limited to, the following themes:
* History and current state of Russophone literary and cultural studies in Latin America
* Dialogues between Latin American intellectuals and the Russophone critical tradition
* Translation and reception of Russophone literatures in Latin America
* Comparative perspectives: Russia and Latin America in the Global South
* Russian literature and its resonances in Latin American literature
