The concept of "superfluous people" and its dynamics in Russian drama of the XIX century

The concept of "superfluosus men" arises in Russian literature in the 1850s and gradually being transferred to the non-literary environment, becoming an ideologeme. The article attempts to explore the appearance in the Russian dramaturgy, beginning with Griboedov, and reaching the late 19th – early 20th century playwrights Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov and Maxim Gorky, who represent three different generations, but also three aesthetic directions in the socio-cultural thought in Russia with a huge influence on the development of the European theater in the 19th and 20th century.
