The article aims to present a brief overview of the emergence of socialist realism in the Soviet Union, in the field of literature, up until its configuration as an official art form at the First Congress of Soviet Writers (1934). Next, the concept of Socialist Realism in the 1930s will be analysed based on speeches and texts by Maksim Górki (1868-1936), Andrei Aleksándrovitch Jdánov (1896-1948) and Karl Berngárdovitch Radek (1885-1939).
