Abstract

This article seeks to reflect on dramaturgical reinterpretations of plays by Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) by contemporary Russian playwrights, such as Alexey Slapovsky (1957-), Lyudmila Petrushevskaya (1938-), Viktor Slavkin (1935-2014) and others. Such reinterpretations arose mainly at the time of Perestroika and the fall of the USSR, a period in which several scenic reinterpretations of the Chekhovian plays had already been done by Russian directors as well as European, American and Brazilian directors.
