Abstract

This article presents part of the results of my doctoral thesis on the child as a model in theatre pedagogy. It highlights the notion of the child’s dramatic instinct, key concept in Jacques Copeau’s pedagogical project, and the presence of correlated notions to it in the works of important psychologists from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, such as the notion of theatrical instinct postulated by Nicolas Evreinov and the research with children carried out by Jacques Copeau and Suzanne Bing. The aim is to evidence the fundamental role of this concept proposed by the emblematic École du Vieux Colombier in the actor’s training.
