Abstract

This article discusses the ontology of the actor’s materiality. In order to do so, it outlines a survey of the Theatre History since the Hindu civilization to these days, observing that it is only in the 20th century that a paradigm shift occurs in the performing presence, when diametrically opposed practices start sharing equivalent prestige. The article also seeks the reasons for the emergence of this radical and unprecedented reconfiguration.
