Abstract

I miei film con Carmelo Bene / My films with Carmelo Bene / Mes films avec Carmelo Bene (2020) presents Mario Masini's testimony of the years working as a cinematographer for the Italian multiartist Carmelo Bene, between the decades of 1960 and 1970. The book intertwines backstage chronicles with technical commentaries regarding the construction of the films' images. The first gives us a feeling of Bene's and his crew's work environment, and the latter helps us to understand the making of the complex and inspired visuality of their cinema. The book is organized in chronological order, ranging from the first encounter between Masini and Bene until their last projects together.

Author Biography

  • Alexandre Wahrhaftig, Universidade de São Paulo. Escola de Comunicações e Artes
    Mestre (2015) e doutorando (bolsista Fapesp 2018/03705-9) pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Meios e Processos Audiovisuais da ECA-USP. No mestrado, desenvolveu pesquisa sobre Abbas Kiarostami e, atualmente, estuda a figura da repetição no cinema brasileiro moderno. É também montador, diretor e diretor de fotografia.
