Abstract

Reading contemporary critical texts that address the proliferation of technical images allows us to say that, despite the announced end of western metaphysics, Plato's theory of two worlds (the one of appearances and the one of eternal truths) has been, by devious ways, repeatedly revitalized. The associations between looking and passivity and between mediation and simulacrum open space to the prophecies of a world of shadows created by the modern mechanisms of rationalization themselves. By connecting diferente assessments of the changes caused by the proliferation of technical images, this article, discusses the treatment given to the issue of the distance of representation, of contemplation and of spectacle.
