This article aims to present the peculiar characteristics of street drugs users as research subjects, besides the ethical limits of research in this population. We start from the ideas of vulnerability and restricted autonomy of clients/patients with emotional and/or psychiatric problems. The ethical-theoretical premises of this reflection are Principialism and Brazilian Ethical Rules for Research involving Human Beings (Resolution 196/96 - CNS/MS/BR). The final proposal points towards the practice of citizenship and inclusion.
