Adolescent suicide attempt
diagnosis difficulties and how nursing professionals handle this issue

This study reflects on adolescent suicide attempts and relates them with existing prejudice and how nursing professionals currently handle this issue. It was based on relevant literature, particularly on an epidemiological research on adolescent suicide attempts, which was carried out at an Emergency Unit, and on professional clinical experience at this Unit, where professionals have contact with adolescents and their family members. This article discusses subjects related to difficulties in diagnosing suicide attempt, with respect to social prejudice and nursing professionals role towards this patient.
