Mothers with mental disorders
an exploratory study

Psychiatric disorders in women with children have been considered as a risk factor for their development. Their feelings and worries, however, are less considered. Based on the conception of health care that takes into account patients in their interpersonal context and an exploratory perspective, this study aimed to examine what mothers and people close to them think about their condition. The most frequent themes were about the sickening and their perception about it, caring for the children and family relations. Among the persons related to these women, the themes addressed difficulties in view of the sickening, as well as efforts to help and seek help. It is important to deal with women in view of their role as mothers.
