Being an alcoholic in the perspective of alcohol dependents

This study aimed to get to know the meaning of alcoholism in the perception of alcoholics attended in a Psychosocial Care Center Alcohol and Drugs. It is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory case study. Data were collected through unstructured interviews. The data analysis followed Minayos (2002) methodological reference framework. A category of analysis emerged from the social actors statements regarding the subjects conception about what it means to be an alcoholic. The daily difficulties caused by the use of alcohol were emphasized.
