family members' conception of middle school students

Qualitative exploratory research carried out from August/2005 to June/2007. The participants were 23 parents of 5th and 8th graders of a public school in Curitiba/ Brazil. It aimed to: know parents conceptions on drug consumption; identify family members experiences on drug use. Data were collected by means of interviews and they were organized in theme categories which pointed out that families have little information on drug types as well as how to prevent them. It was evidenced drug conception as something harmful to health, brings about family disruption, and provokes death and all sorts of damages to users, families and society.
