Objective: to estimate the prevalence of the likelihood of the Common Mental Disorder and the
relationship with socio-demographic and labor variables in a sample of Brazilian military personnel
in non-war times. Method: a cross-sectional study with 229 military personnel from an Infantry
Battalion. The Self Report Questionnaire 20 and linear correlation analysis were applied with
the calculation of prevalence ratios. Results: the prevalence of the Common Mental Disorder
was 59 (25.76%). The questions loss of interest (39.30%), feeling sad (41.05%) and sleeping
poorly (44.98%) showed higher prevalence ratios. There was no statistical relationship between
the Common Mental Disorder and the socio-demographic and labor variables. Conclusion: the
prevalence is high when compared to the conditions of military personnel at war and reinforces
the need for interventions to improve the mental health of these professionals.
