Abstract

In the second half of 2012, the German comic artist Mawil lived for a month in Porto Alegre as a guest of the Goethe-Institut. This exchange resulted in a short comic on the city published in the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel and gathered in The Singles Collection, a recently in Germany released anthology that brings together the best columns of the author for the newspaper. This comic on Porto Alegre was also translated and published, still in 2012, in the online edition of the Brazilian newspaper Zero Hora. This article is a report by the translator about that experience, focusing on the large difference between the public of the original and the translation, as well as on the strategies used to solve the problem.
