Abstract

The current study of Cervantes´ work, Dom Quixote, has as objective to analyze the several translations to Portuguese, the proverbs used by the character Sancho Panza. This work fits in the perspective of comparative translation. The chapter XXV from the first part was selected, more specifically the moment where Don Quixote squire uses a series of proverbs said in a sequence, without an explicit semantic relation with the narrative. We analyzed by comparison, the referred proverbs translation, at the six translations of the Cervantes´ book published in Brazil. The analysis of the several solutions proposed at the translation will consider the multiple difficulties that appear when we translate cultural marks, which require from the translator, knowledge from the situation and the surrounding ambiance. We end finding the idiolect, which is the style of each translator. This work is part of translations studies and paremiology, with a comparative focus, starting from a corpus Spanish/ Portuguese, Portuguese/ Portuguese.
