Abstract

A lexinome is multifunctional and multilingual lexicographical work that combines an advanced encyclopedic and electronic dictionary with a number of other options provided by internet. Uptil now, very few of this type of diccionaries have been made based on lexicographical criteria and conceived, among other purposes, for the translation of LSP texts. However, recently the web sites of various enterprises, organisations and institutions have spontaneously developed in a way similar to the concept of a lexinome. One such example is the Danish Wind Energy Association who has conceived a web site in five languages (Danish, English, German, French and Spanish) that includes a detailed systematic introduction to the field of wind power and wind turbines, a small multilingual dictionary with references to this introduction, a search function to locate words included in the pages of the site, a selection of links to other interesting sites ect. This spontaneous lexinome is rather useful when one have to search for terms or colocations for a LSP translation or, simply, for the production of any text about wind power and its technological application in any of the above mentioned five languages. However, the search for the needed data can be a rather slowly process and some times even complicated because of the fact that the web site originally was not conceived for such functions, i.e. the translation and production of texts. But with the introduction of some well considered and not very expensive modifications, this problem can be solved and the site transformed into a real useful instrument for the advanced translation. And this opens a new field for specialised lexicography for the benefit of translation.
