Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the main kinds of loanwords observed in contemporary Japanese language in order to identify their patterns of occurrence and the reasons for linguistic choices. Based on the literature review, these patterns of occurrence are compared to loanwords from Portuguese regarding their similarities and differences. As a conclusion, we can observe that loanwords have an important role in linguistic-cultural exchange and influence between cultures
