Memory and Intertextuality in Postcolonialism:a Case Study of We Cried for Magny-Dog

Abstract

In an intertextual relationship with We Killed Mangy-Dog, We Cried for Mangy-Dog reproduces an episode of an emotional reading of the Mozambican story in the Portuguese class in post-colonial Angola. There is a Mozambican colonial memory embedded in the Angolan post-colonial memory. This article aims to study the story We Cried for Mangy-Dog of Ondjaki in terms of the intextual relationship with We Killed Mangy-Dog of Luís Bernardo Honwana, trying to discover how the Ondjakian rewriting develops new meanings in dialogue with the original story. At the post-colonial level, the question of the collective memory of colonial domination as an anti-colonialist intervention discourse will also be addressed.
