Previous facts and news concerning Faróis (1900), by Cruz e Sousa

This article analyses news about the celebrations of the second anniversary of the death of Cruz e Sousa, as well as press articles about the publication of Faróis (1900), a poetry work by the Brazilian symbolist. It is especially considered reports published in the newspapers A Imprensa and Cidade do Rio and brief critical evaluations of Artur Azevedo and Medeiros e Albuquerque, who spoke about Faróis. The aim is to suggest a certain link between the position occupied by intellectuals in the literary field and the meaning of their journalistic interventions in the episodes in question.
