Abstract

This article analyzed the reexamination of a part of the history of Angolan struggle and civil war in the novel Estação das Chuvas, by José Eduardo Agualusa. It starts from the hypothesis that the work was made with the intention of recounting the related events, citing historical moments, giving them a new look. The results show that the novel reexamines the history of the country, revealing that the purpose that led the three great independence movements (MPLA, UNITA and FNLA) to fight is not due to social causes, as they argue, but to hunger by power, resulting in the civil war in that African country.

Author Biographies

  • Carmolino Cá, Federal University of Alagoas

    Graduated degree in Portuguese Language and Literature from the University for the International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (Unilab). He holds a Master's degree in Literature and Linguistics (Discourse Analysis) from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL). He is interested in research on discourse and literature. He received a scholarship from the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships (PIBID). He also received a scholarship from the Languages ​​Without Borders Program, where he worked on the subproject "Teaching Portuguese as an Additional Language" (PLA). He is a member and co-founder of the Creole language and culture group "Nô Djunta Mon"; he was a board member of the Guinean Students' Association at Unilab (AEGU), where he served as vice-president of the fiscal committee; and he is a member and co-founder of the Guinean Students' Academy of Letters at Unilab. He was a member of the Text, Discourse, and Teaching Research Group (TEDE/UNILAB). He participated as a monitor in the 5th UNILAB University Week. He also participated as a collaborator in the First International Week of Guinean Nursing Students at Unilab, where he worked on the culture subproject. He is a member of the Discourse Analysis Study Group (GraD) (Ufal).

  • Abulai Balde, Federal University of Bahia

    Poet and PhD in Literature and Culture, with an emphasis on theory and criticism of literature and culture from the Federal University of Bahia-UFBA (2023). Master in Culture and Society, with an emphasis on literary, identity, cultural and social studies (Post-Culture/UFBA) (2017). Bachelor's degree in Letters, with a specialization in Portuguese Language and Literature from the State University of Bahia-UNEB (2013). Currently, he is a substitute professor at the Federal Institute of Minas Gerais - Bambuí Campus.
