Este trabalho se propõe a discutir o modo como os períodos colonial e pós-colonial são relidos em romances trazidos a público a partir da década de noventa, em Portugal, Moçambique e nos demais países africanos de língua oficial portuguesa. Esses romances, com destaque para a produção de João Paulo Borges Coelho, assinalam a necessidade de uma recuperação do sentido histórico para a percepção efetiva das caracter´ísticas culturais presentes ainda hoje em tais países.
