Abstract

This essay intends to ponder on some aspects of republicanism in Angola, analyzing how a fraction of the urban  elites, called "the children of the country", "angolans" or "native" have appropriated exogenous political concepts with the goal of transforming the angolan social reality as the result of an internal dynamic. This process began in the second half of the 19th century, when the monarchical institutions began to suffer strong attacks coming from various sectors of the population. Among the components of this process, we are faced  with political concepts associated with the Enlightenment and the French Revolution and it's transposition to american and african colonies, where they were afterwards redesigned.
