This article presents a demonstrative historical overview about how education, intellectuality and development were consolidated from the events that culminated in the formation of the People's Republic of China. Identifying deadlocks, political strategies and challenges that the government and the population have gone through. The way in which government plans have culturally influenced and impacted China on these important social components helps to explain many important events of the period such as the Great Leap Forward and the New Fourth of May. This study also points out paradigm changes that impacted intellectuals and the direct link this had in the educational system. From this scenario, it is possible to evidence a distance from the ancient characteristics that China is recognized for.
