Objective: To evaluate the association between functional mobility and cognitive aspects in elderly individuals with Parkinson's Disease (PD). Method: This was a cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive, association study. A sociodemographic characterization was performed, the PD stage was identified using the Hoehn & Yahr scale, and motor symptoms were characterized using the Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS part III). Functional mobility was assessed using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. Cognitive aspects were measured using the cognitive TUG, which corresponds to the test modality where the volunteer is asked to perform an additional task during its execution, and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Spearman's correlation was used to assess the association between the independent variable TUG and the dependent variables cognitive TUG, MMSE, and MoCA, p<0.05. Results: A total of 29 people with PD comprised the sample; 62.1% were male, the mean age was 70.14 (± 8.81) years, and the mean time since PD diagnosis was 5.11 (± 3.89) years. A significant, strong, and direct association was found between the TUG test and cognitive TUG. The MMSE and the MoCA showed a significant, moderate, and inverse association with the TUG test. Discussion: Functional mobility represents an important milestone for people with PD; its impairment is associated with a greater attentional demand, whether from the patient or caregiver. Cognitive deficits are associated with functional mobility and appear to share similar pathophysiological mechanisms of impairment. Conclusion: Cognitive aspects were associated with the functional mobility of elderly people with PD.
