The article begins with an introductory discussion of the so-called concept of the “Age of the Biennial” in general and specifically of the contemporary biennial form; the article then turns to the 35th São Paulo Biennial,
Choreographies of the Impossible, from 2023, aiming to investigate some of the main elements disseminated in its conception, structure, and organization that present
a claim to criticality. Our objective is to characterize, in broad strokes, the concept and scope of these components for the shaping of criticism in the context of the 35th Biennial (and, ultimately, of the contemporary biennial form itself).
