This text examines the relationship between Art History in Brazil and its various forms of social erasure. The reflection is based on an initiative to compile analyses of the role of art criticism in the 1970s, gathered by Fernanda Torres and Martha Telles in their book, but is also informed by speeches delivered at the seminar organized at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). The roles and limits of art criticism in the face of social urgent demands are also considered.
