This article aims to analyze Mort Cinder, a comic book written by the Argentinian screenwriter Héctor Germán Oesterheld and illustrated by Uruguayan-Argentine artist Alberto Breccia. The study approaches the narrative construction of the historieta, in which the protagonist, an immortal hero, is created by the author as an allegorical reflection of time. This approach brings forth Jorge Luis Borges’ influences on fantastic narratives, a genre debated by the researcher Rosalba Campra. Finally, this paper investigates Breccia’s artistic poetics, which introduces into the pages of Mort Cinder a graphic experimentation turned to the representation of suspense, the unfamiliar, fear, the sinister and the fantastic.
