Abstract

This essay discusses the relevance of the phenomenological and hermeneutical theories of Heidgger and Gadamer in Art History and Image studies. Some concepts of these theories might be used as a key to a new understanding of the role of the historian as interpreter. The aim of this essay is to propose the possibility of a hermeneutical approach as a holistic methodology of Art History studies.
