This paper's subject is to develop the argument of Lichtenstein (1994) in which she claims it is possible to recognize, in Aristotle's Poetics aspects that would conform to an image theory. Dedicated to the study of tragedy, this text has passages where painting and drawing were considered. His influence is recognized in the studies of the Academy of Beaux Arts in Paris. However, is it possible to approach this theory of the image to modern and contemporary arts? The subject of this paper is to recognize the conditions of this theory of the image proposed by Lichtenstein (1994) and its relationship with Impressionism, Dadaism, and contemporary art.
