This article analyzes the academic background and artistic processes of professional makeup artists who work with the performing arts, as well as the processes of some Brazilian theater groups whose works have makeup as a fundamental constituent of the visuality of the scene. The analysis starts from the testimonies given by the artists during the Encontros de Caracterização na Quarentena (Quarantine Characterization Meetings), held in the year 2020. Group, research and musical theater as well as super productions are highlighted. It is intended, therefore, to understand how professional makeup education takes place in Brazil, and the difficulties faced by different Brazilian theatrical productions in carrying out their creative processes.
