Abstract

The aim of this study was to translate Mary O’Donnell’s short story “Walking Ghosts”, into Brazilian Portuguese, with a focus on the transference of cultural, stylistic, and linguistic aspects of the text. The approximation of the translation’s vocabulary, expressions, and constructions to the forms the author used was sought so that a close picture of Ireland, characters and their interactions, as described in the text, could be offered to the reader of Brazilian Portuguese. The transposition of O’Donnell’s sensitivity and wit, which are present in her short story and its theme, were also observed, resulting in a potentially foreignizing translation.
