"Daddy, would you still love me if I were a vegetarian, right?": masculinities, adolescences, and Educommunication in the telenovela

This article investigates the educommunicative function of the telenovela Mi Marido Tiene Familia (Televisa, 2017-2019) in the construction of imaginaries regarding male adolescent homosexuality. Grounded in the concepts of Educommunication (Soares, 2011), cultural mediations (Martín-Barbero, 2001), and pedagogies of sexuality (Louro, 1997), it analyzes how the narrative establishes a didactics of affect to model family acceptance. Under the methodology of telepoetic analysis, three nodal sequences of the character Temo’s identity revelation are examined. The results indicate that the work employs melodramatic strategies, such as metaphor, to create cognitive scaffolds that allow the conservative audience to negotiate tolerance.
