Abstract

For this issue of the journal, we recommend the film The Blue Trail (2025), by filmmaker and visual artist Gabriel Mascaro. The film portrays the forced exile of elderly people who are taken to isolated colonies to live out the last days of their lives. The story is about Tereza, a 77-year-old woman who does not accept exile and decides to fulfill an old dream of flying in an airplane, a dream she intends to achieve before going to the colony. The original title, The Last Blue, is a reference to the blue-slime snail that leaves a blue trail wherever it goes; if you put its slime in your eyes, it allows you to see the future. Tereza’s journey in search of her freedom takes place in the vastness of the Amazon.
