Aldir Blanc is one of the greatest and most important poets of Brazilian song. According to the writer Sérgio Rodrigues, his work “merges the lyrical and the antilyrical in a new unity that it is no longer possible to break”, in an alliance “between the sublime and the grotesque, which can be called neo-baroque, a key to the reading of the Brazilian soul that deserves attention”. In this article, we seek to unravel some of the meanings of this “reading of the Brazilian soul”, considering the work of the lyricist who was called “Goldsmith of Slang Words” by Dorival Caymmi as an interpretation of Brazil and its quarrels.
