Ana Martins Marques (Belo Horizonte, 1977) is one of the leading voices in the contemporary Brazilian poetry scene. My purpose in this article is to investigate the rewriting of the female figure Medusa, from reading the poem “Um café com a Medusa”, published in the book Risque esta palavra (2021), based on the feminist criticism of Hélène Cixous, in The Laugh of the Medusa. In this poem, we see the displacement of the representation of the female character from the condition of object to subject of discourse, as intended by Beauvoir, in the book considered as the founder of feminism The Second Sex. For us, with Ana Martins Marques and Hélène Cixous, “it is enough to look Medusa in the face to see her: she is not mortal. She is beautiful, and she laughs” (CIXOUS, 2022, p. 62).
